The Reason for this Season

“…in all these things we are more than conquerors through him who loved us. For I am convinced that neither death, nor life, nor angels, nor rulers, nor things present, nor things to come, nor powers, nor height, nor depth, nor anything else in all creation, will be able to separate us from the love of God in Christ Jesus our Lord.” (Romans8:37-39)

In the Christian faith, this is Holy Week. A week beginning with jubilant fans ushering in their hero only to end with those same fans calling for his tortured death. From Palm Sunday to Easter the fickleness of human nature is on display.

Teaching age 5 in church school one Easter 35+ years ago, a little boy asked why we had Easter eggs and spent the day before or after Jesus’ death playing hide and seek with them. Another young boy quickly answered: “Silly! Eggs are about being born. We bury them because you bury the dead and Jesus died. We find them them because Jesus found us new life with his Father – ya know, God.”
